The Wallingford Historical and Archaeological Society events in January 2012

A Century in Britain - 13th January 2012

Martin Andrews will present "A Century in Britain: from 1851 Exhibition to 1951 Festival of Britain" at the next meeting of the Wallingford Historical and Archaeological Society (TWHAS). This talk will be held on Friday 13th January, 7.45 for 8pm at Wallingford Town Hall. Visitors (£2) are most welcome.

MCC Annual Quiz Evening, 7th February North Moreton Village Hall 7.30pm

South Moreton School Barn Dance 24th February

£15 to include Hog Roast (group discount available), pProceeds in aid of school’s Outdoor Learning Project. Watch out for posters after Christmas for more details!

Charity Card Sale - Saturday 5th November

Charity Card and Soup Lunch took place in the village hall on Saturday 5th November.

Book Sale - Saturday 19th November

The last book sale for 2011 was on Saturday 19th November - 11am - 3pm in the village hall.

Moreton Beer Cricket Festival - Thursday 28th - Sunday 31st July

This years Moreton Bear and Cricket Festival took place on Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st July at the Bear at Home and cricket on the Croft. There was the usual mix of beer, cricket & live music.

Air Pageant and Pig Roast - Saturday 2nd July

Peter and Polly Vacher again welcomed residents and friends to Melhuish Farm on 2nd July. Proceeds have been split between the All Saints tower and Oxfordshire air ambulance.

Royal Ascot Ladies Day - Thursday 16th June

The Bear at Home hosted the Royal Ascot Ladies Day which included lunch and tea with full coverage of the racing, plus a bookmaker taking bets.

North Moreton Fete - Sunday 8th May 2011

The fete took place again this year on the Croft. A dry day with all the usual stalls such as cakes and plants, bric a brac and lots of entertainment for children of all ages. It was well supported.

Royal Wedding celebrations - Friday 29th April

There was a tea party with games for children of primary school age and under on the afternoon of Friday 29th April, the children had a super time followed by a Pig Roast in the evening for adults and the older children. Both events took place on the Croft.

Coffee Morning - Saturday 16th April

In aid of the Porch Steppin Stones Centre - Oxford. From 10.30am to 12 midday in the village hall. Donations of dried and tinned food welcomed.

Village walk - Sunday 10th April

Our annual village walk a circular ramble round most of the public righrs of way inside and just outside the parish.The walk took about 1.5 - 2hours and was organised by Roger Haycock.

Book sale - Saturday 26th March

The book sale took place on Saturday 26th March - 10am - 4pm in the village hall. Second hand books sale, Paperbacks, Hardbacks, Children's' books. A small number of individually priced books, including signed copies, collectables such as Observer's books and Puffin Picture Books, rarities and ephemera.

Clearing the rubbish around North Moreton - Saturday 12th March

Many thanks to all the helpers who cleaned up the whole area in an hour or so – thanks very much. Muir and Maggie Parker

North Moreton Safari Supper - Saturday 5th March

The popular Safari Supper returnd to North Moreton on Saturday 5th March, the theme was be Black and White with a Mask of any type.

Monday 28th February - Wallingford Museum

Special PREVIEW OF THE NEW EXHIBITIONS FOR 2011 which included Digs & Discoveries: The Findings of the Burh to Borough Project and Christie to Causton: Murder & Mayhem in Wallingford plus our new Transport Gallery and more! Wallingford Museum.

North Moreton Village Quiz - Saturday 5th Feb 7.30pm

The village quiz in North Moreton village hall took place on Saturday 5th Feb there was a cash bar, a raffle and the usual fun!
